Matti Paloniemi

Role: The leader of Tanssiteatteri Rimpparemmi is the artistic director and choreographer, Matti Paloniemi. Paloniemi has 25 years of professional experience in the field of dance, working as a dancer, choreographer, producer, director, and leading artistic teams. He has created numerous full-length works for dance theaters and spoken theaters throughout Finland. Paloniemi has served as the artistic director of Rimpparemmi since 2010.
Matti Paloniemi was the artistic director of Tanssiteatteri Tsuumi from 1998 to 2007. Throughout his career, Paloniemi has held various positions of trust, including the board of Dance Information Center from 2010 to 2015 and the board of Finnish Theatres from 2014 to 2020. Paloniemi studied dance at the Oulu Conservatory and choreography at the Theatre Academy. He completed his professional qualification as a leader in the performing arts in 2021.
Paloniemi appreciates movement in dance and its infinite possibilities for interpreting life. However, he does not like the funding challenges in dance.
Why Rimpparemmi? Paloniemi chooses Tanssiteatteri Rimpparemmi because Northern Finland needs a professional group dedicated to dance and performing arts.
